The opening of my series titled Sscool at the Újbuda Gallery. Stand-up comedian Balázs Máté Szabó pointed out in a very entertaining way what I also believe: that the educational system, in its own way, spanning space, time, and generations, creates a provincial yet beautiful “sense of belonging.” Because, folks, the “we-experience” is an endangered “species” today—I don’t even need to explain that… we can end up in all sorts of gravitational fields that work to prevent us from experiencing ourselves as a community. I consider this important, even if it means that this experience can only be rehabilitated through our shared hatred of tomato-cabbage…
The audience was also treated to an unforgettable experience by two brilliant 12-year-old musicians whom I got to know this year during my teaching work at the Creascola Eight-Grade High School. I think you should remember the names Trisztán Kiss and Márk Tokaji; we’re sure to hear more from them…
The boys’ relaxed, carefree, energetic demeanor and playing convey something incredibly important: a state of being that we may seek to rediscover, something many of us, even as adults, might set as a goal…
The exhibition is on view at the Újbuda Gallery through April 14.
Thank you to Sonja Pintér and Julcsi Bődey for organizing this!
